The most crucial period for intellectual development in humans is typically between the ages of five and six. In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, children at this age receive kindergarten education, a vital foundation for their overall growth and the subsequent success of the 12-year compulsory education system.

Kim Jong Im, a teacher at Kaeson Kindergarten in Moranbong District, affiliated with Pyongyang Teachers Training College, has been a trailblazer in integrating new teaching methods that combine science, art, computer skills, robotics, and English at the kindergarten level.

Two decades ago, after graduating from college, Kim Jong Im embarked on her journey as a kindergarten teacher. As she watched generations of children graduate, she came to realize the importance and challenges of early childhood education. Always mindful of her responsibility towards the children’s future, she continuously updated her teaching methods and enhanced her qualifications.

Drawing inspiration from the educational policies of the Workers’ Party of Korea and staying attuned to global trends in educational development, Kim Jong Im crafted teaching methods tailored to the cognitive abilities and mental qualities of young children. She introduced abacus and mnemonics education to stimulate the right brain development of children and innovated new methods for robot and science play education.

Identifying children with exceptional intellectual potential, Kim Jong Im provides them with targeted and effective intellectual education. Many of her students have gone on to excel in higher education, from universities to middle and primary schools.

During school vacations, Kim Jong Im travels to regional and rural kindergartens to share her innovative teaching methods. Her efforts have significantly contributed to elevating the quality of kindergarten education in these areas.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Kim Jong Im was honored as one of the ten best teachers in 2023. Her dedication, instructional abilities, and qualifications truly reflect her commitment to education and the well-being of her students.
