The 19th Enlarged Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea has undertaken serious discussions to implement the “Regional Development 20×10 Policy.” This strategic initiative aims to ensure the rapid and clear development of the regional economy, contributing significantly to the overall prosperity of the state. The meeting also addressed issues related to expediting the completion of major policy projects.

As part of the comprehensive plan, there is a concerted effort to annually establish regional industry factories in 20 counties, accompanied by the creation of essential raw material bases across all cities and counties in the country. The Central Tree Nursery, operating under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, is playing a pivotal role in this endeavor by focusing on the production of saplings essential for regional economic development and the enhancement of people’s livelihoods.

Pak Kwang Gyun, Section Chief at the Central Tree Nursery, highlights the shift in priorities, stating, “While our tree nursery traditionally produced pine, Changsong larch, and other tall trees, along with garden plants such as zelkova, this year, our goal is to generate substantial quantities of trees with high economic value. This includes wild fruit and oil trees, serving as raw materials for regional industry factories. We are actively preparing for their production.”

Currently, the tree nursery is expediting preparations for sapling production, aligning with the start of sowing in March. Special attention is given to enhancing soil quality by applying organic manure and huminite to outdoor cultivating fields. Simultaneously, significant efforts are directed towards accelerating preparatory work to establish highly intensive sapling production.

Moreover, the tree nursery is advancing its integrated control system to manage temperature and humidity scientifically, ensuring timely production of the required substrate for sapling cultivation. The dedicated employees are resolute in their commitment to fulfilling their mission, aiming to bring tangible changes to the development of the regional economy and the enhancement of people’s livelihoods.
