Somokri heron is a living monument found in Somok-ri, Jangjin County, South Hamgyong Province.

It is the biggest of the herons. It is more than 90 centimetres long and its wings are over 80 centimetres long. For the large wings and long neck, the body is small and light.

The heron breeding place in Somok-ri is situated in the highest mountain among the heron breeding places of Korea. A lot of Abies nephrolepis is growing in the place.

Herons breed between March and April and live in a plain before flying to the southern area in late autumn.

The breeding place of Somokri heron is of scientific and ornamental significance as it is in the northern highlands of Korea.
