Founded on February 5 1987, Pyongyang College of Tourism originally began as the Tour Guide-Interpreter School, focusing primarily on training tour guides proficient in foreign languages.

In April 2014, the institution was elevated to college status, expanding its curriculum to include specialized training in tour management and development alongside traditional tour guide education.

Today, Pyongyang College of Tourism stands as a key center for the education and research of qualified tour specialists. It offers daytime programs for aspiring tour guides and managers, as well as online education options.

The tour guide faculty specializes in training interpreters fluent in languages such as English, Russian, and Chinese. Meanwhile, the tour management faculty prepares students for roles in travel companies and the development of tourist resorts.

The college enhances its educational offerings through 3-6 month short-term overseas training for lecturers and by hosting foreign visiting lecturers who provide language and specialized instruction to both students and teachers.
