The Mausoleum of King Tongmyong in Ryongsan-ri of Ryokpho District is a remarkable piece of Korean architecture that reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of the Korean people. This ancient structure has been wonderfully reconstructed, thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, to become an educational place for the people, showcasing the superior architectural and artistic skills of the Korean nation.

The mausoleum consists of a tomb that is supported by 160-odd platforms and structures that are unique to the Korean nation. The Jongrung Temple is one such structure, which adds to the beauty and grandeur of the mausoleum. In addition, the area surrounding the mausoleum resembles a beautiful pleasure park with Jinju Pool, a large vacant lot, thick pines, greens, and flowering plants.

The President and Chairman oversaw the reconstruction of the mausoleum to perfection. President Kim Il Sung personally wrote the letters “The Monument to the Reconstructed Mausoleum of King Tongmyong” on the monument, and Chairman Kim Jong Il solved all the issues that arose in building it to the highest standard. The mausoleum is a testament to the DPRK’s policy on national heritage preservation.

More than 30 stone sculptures and dozens of art pieces are on display at the mausoleum, showcasing the braveness of the Koguryo people and their customs, including images of King Tongmyong. The mausoleum is a reflection of the deep-rooted culture and history of the Korean people, and it serves as an educational place for the people to learn about their time-honored national tradition.
