The housing problem is of great significance in improving the people’s living. People cannot lead a stable life without houses no matter how many foodgrain and consumer goods may be produced. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has long attached importance to the housing construction and pushed ahead with it.
The Workers’ Party of Korea regards the housing problem as the most important task which cannot be neglected even a moment.
The Eighth Congress of the WPK and the Second Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee held at the beginning of the year decided to dynamically push forward with the housing construction on a nationwide scale and build 50,000 flats in the capital city alone during the 2021-2025 five-year plan period and to this end, to build 10,000 flats every year.
The respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK, stressed that building 50,000 modern dwelling houses in the capital Pyongyang is a long-cherished desire planned and prepared by the Party to provide the capital citizens with more stable and civilized living conditions.
The WPK grasped the number of households lacking in dwelling houses and made a deep study of solving the problem.
It reset the orientation and order of construction and appropriated a great share of the total state budget for construction for the housing construction. On the basis of the plan and preparation for its realization, the Party adopted the construction of 50,000 flats as a policy at its Congress.
The construction of 50,000 flats is the work for building large-scale new modern streets in the areas of Songsin, Songhwa, Sopho, Kumchon and September 9 Street, widening the city division of the capital Pyongyang in the eastern, western and northern directions.
At present, the construction of 10,000 flats is nearing completion in the Songsin and Songhwa areas.
When 50,000 flats are built with 10,000 every year until 2025, nearly 70,000 dwelling houses including 16,000-odd flats under construction will be built to fully solve the housing problem of the capital citizens. It is a consistent policy of the WPK to provide the people with more stable and civilized living conditions.
