The 31st Pyongyang International Marathon was held to commemorate the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
The competition included a full marathon, half marathon, and 10 km and 5 km races, with participation from athletes from DPRK, China, Romania, Morocco, Ethiopia, and marathon enthusiasts from various countries and regions around the world.
An opening ceremony was held on April 6 at Kim Il Sung Stadium.
In attendance were Pak Jong Gun, Vice Premier of the Cabinet and Chairman of the State Planning Commission (also Vice Chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee), Kim Il Guk, Minister of Sports, officials from relevant departments and sports organizations, citizens of Pyongyang, and foreign guests.
After an address at the opening ceremony, the races began.
In the full marathon, male and female DPRK athletes took first place.
In the half marathon, DPRK male and female athletes claimed gold, silver, and bronze medals.
In the men’s amateur marathon, Polish runners swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, while in the women’s amateur marathon, a runner from Hong Kong, China, took 1st place.
A closing ceremony was held.
At the closing ceremony, trophies, medals, and certificates were awarded to the top-performing athletes and enthusiasts.
