Throughout his 32-year career, Jang Son Il, the dedicated instructor of the women’s football team at Mangyongdae District Extracurricular Juvenile Sports School in Pyongyang, has nurtured and sent more than 20 players to national teams and over 190 to various other teams.

This achievement is a source of immense pride for Jang, who has poured his heart and soul into preparing each player to carry the future of women’s football.

Upon assuming the role of instructor at the school, Jang prioritized scouting, though the initial results were not as anticipated.

In his pursuit of identifying talented players, he attended a school sports meeting where a girl who excelled in a race caught his attention. Jang approached her, expressing his interest and inquiring about her willingness to play football.

Although she seemed intrigued, she hesitated. Jang persisted, learning her home address and visiting her that evening. Unfortunately, the girl’s parents swiftly rejected the idea, adamant about their only daughter not participating in football, a sport challenging even for boys.

Undeterred, Jang made repeated visits to the girl’s house, facing outright refusals.

During one visit, after multiple attempts to ring the doorbell, he received no response. Despite the setbacks, he persevered, understanding the concerns of her parents.

The father was a People’s Artiste in a central art troupe, and the mother worked at a commercial institution. They were hesitant to entrust their child to a new instructor. Although it bruised his pride, Jang continued his visits.

Only on his 21st attempt did he finally secure their consent.

This marked the beginning of scouting numerous girls whom he trained into promising players. Nine graduates from his initial batch were elevated to professional teams.

Under his guidance, the team clinched victory in the women’s event 12 times at the national juvenile sports school tournament. Jang’s coaching prowess earned him the prestigious AFC (Asian Football Confederation) coaching licenses.

Among his proteges are Merited Athletes and accomplished athletes.

His accomplishments led to his participation in the Seventh National Conference of Sportspersons, where he had the honor of being photographed with the Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, and he received high state commendations for his outstanding contributions.
