The Mangyongdae Prize National Martial Art Championship opened here to mark the Day of the Sun.

At least 500 men and women players from 20 odd organizations including Taekwon-Do teams throughout the country will compete in various events including Taekwon-Do and Paduk during the championship.

Its opening ceremony took place at the Taekwon-Do Hall on Friday.

Present there were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, Kim Yong Ho, secretary general of the Cabinet, Kim Chun Sik, secretary general of the National Sports Guidance Committee, officials concerned, sports persons and Pyongyangites.

Kim Kyong Ho, chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, made an opening address.

At the end of the ceremony there was a march-past by the players and a demonstration by players of the Taekwon-Do Team of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee.
