DPRK athletes have won a number of gold medals at international games in Juche 106 (2017) to add luster to the history of building a sports power.

Om Yun Chol, Rim Jong Sim, Kim Kuk Hyang, Ri Hyon Ju and other players bagged 12 gold medals at the 29th Summer Universiad, while Taekwon-Do players seized 22 gold medals out of 36 at the 20th Taekwon-Do World Championships.

Women footballers took the first place at the 2017 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship for the third time after 2007 and 2015 and had three consecutive wins at the EAFF E-1 Football Championship this year.

Kim Hye Gyong breasted the tape at the 16th Asian Marathon Championships with 2:28:35, 3 minutes and 11 seconds faster than her record at the 15th Asian Marathon Championships, to emerge as the twice Asian champion.

Han Jong Sim, Kim Il Gyong and Ri Kwang Song took gold medals at the World Juvenile Weightlifting Championships held in April, Rim Un Sim and Sin Chol Bom at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in April and Song Kuk Hyang, Kang Hyon Gyong and Pak Jong Ju at the Asian Junior and Juvenile Weightlifting Championships in July.

Meanwhile, DPRK athletes also proved successful at the 64th World Military Pentathlon, 10th Asian Acrobatic Gymnastic Championship, 7th Gymnastics Asian Championships, 2017 Grand Prix Diving Game sponsored by the International Federation of Swimming, 1st East-Asian Judo Championships of the International Military Sports Council and other games.
