Pak Mi Hyang at the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Team took the first place in the selection of the 10 Best Taekwondoists of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 2017.

Born in Rangnang District of Pyongyang City, she began to learn Taekwon-Do at the Taekwon-Do Group of the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace in Juche 94(2005) with an ardent hope and ambition to become a Taekwondoist.

She started her career as player at the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Team in Juche 100(2011). In life she was cheerful and fond of reading but in training even men players admired her.

In those days she was conscious that she is a player of the home of Taekwon-Do.

Pak Mi Hyang took part in the 17th World Taekwon-Do Championship and came second in the 51-kilogram women’s individual sparring.

She exerted herself harder. Her aim was to be a world’s Taekwon-Do star and demonstrate the honour of Korea, the home of Taekwon-Do, with a gold medal. She trained hard to improve her physical ability and accomplish weak technical actions.

After improving her techniques, she won four gold medals in the sparring, individual and team pattern and team power events of the 18th World Taekwon-Do Championship.

She also bagged three gold medals and one bronze medal at the 19th World Taekwon-Do Championship, greatly demonstrating the honour of the country.

Not feeling content, she made strenuous efforts for perfect physical and technical preparations and in the course, further developed her forte.

In the 63-kilogram women’s individual sparring of the 20th World Taekwon-Do Championship she defeated all her opponents by applying bold and perfect technical actions. Especially in the finals she competed with a Russian player who was physically and technically well-prepared and experienced in international games. Pak Mi Hyang defeated the Russian player with successive attacks while making a good use of her forte, winning the first gold medal of the DPRK team in the sparring. After making a breakthrough of victory, she also fully displayed her ability in the team sparring and team pattern events as well, rendering services to the victory of her team in the championship.

She has been selected as the Best Taekwondoist of the Republic four times since Juche 103(2014) and awarded the title of People’s Athlete.

Now she is training harder with a resolve to demonstrate the spirit and honour of Korea all over the world with Taekwon-Do.
