In a vibrant display of ambition and transformation, a stunning coastal tourist city is taking shape in Myongsasimni, celebrated as one of the nation’s most picturesque coastal spots. This development embodies the dynamic spirit of socialist Korea as it strides into a new era of progress and cultural enrichment.

The Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea has been guiding the creation of unique tourist destinations that blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of Korea’s coasts. Through their careful oversight, Myongsasimni on the Kalma Peninsula now boasts a wide range of service facilities, including hotels, hostels, sea-bathing amenities, sports and recreation centers, and various commercial and dining options. Together, these form a breathtaking coastal landscape.

On December 29, Kim Jong Un, the respected General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, visited the newly inaugurated facilities to see the progress firsthand.

Standing by the shoreline, with the waves of the East Sea sparkling under the sun, Kim Jong Un smiled warmly, taking in the vibrant coastal city. He recalled his earlier vision for the area, where he had imagined a 4-kilometer-long beach bustling with laughter and joy—a dream that has now become a reality.

Declaring the resort “spectacular, beautiful, and magnificent,” Kim Jong Un expressed his satisfaction with the high standard of the facilities, which are designed to host not only tourists but also significant political and cultural events.

Highlighting the importance of excellent service in defining the success and reputation of a tourist destination, he provided guidance on maintaining and operating the facilities efficiently. This included suggestions for introducing innovative services and training staff to meet world-class standards.

“Our country is rich in diverse tourist resources that could inspire envy worldwide,” he said. “Coupled with our political stability, institutional strengths, and robust economic conditions, we have everything needed to thrive in the tourism industry. By leveraging these advantages, we can create a new chapter in socialist cultural development and foster regional and national economic growth.”

Kim Jong Un emphasized the importance of scientific planning and legal frameworks to ensure sustainable tourism development. He urged the team to raise service standards, enhance tourist information systems, and offer unique mementos for visitors.

He noted that the Kalma Coastal Resort represents the first significant step in transforming Korea’s tourism sector and proposed creating a seamless connection between the Kalma Resort and the famed Mt. Kumgang Resort. He also called for tapping into other regional attractions, such as mountaineering opportunities in Samjiyon, to further boost local economies and improve living standards.

With pride and optimism, Kim Jong Un expressed his confidence that the Kalma Coastal Resort would become a beloved destination for Koreans and international visitors alike. The resort, which showcases the nation’s natural beauty, is set to open its doors in June 2025.

As the waves of the East Sea lapped against the shore, one couldn’t help but feel that this ambitious project marked the beginning of a new chapter for Korea’s tourism and cultural landscape.
