There took place an event at the People’s Palace of Culture on Tuesday to observe the world breastfeeding week 2017.
It was attended by officials of public health and press fields and relevant units, women in Pyongyang and the United Nations resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, the representative of UNICEF and WHO and other officials of international bodies here and staff members of foreign embassies here.
Speakers at the event said breastfeeding is necessary for preventing diseases of children and promoting their growth.
They underlined the need to promote the social concern and understanding of the importance of breastfeeding and achieve the close cooperation and nexus among public organizations in order to improve the health of babies and their mothers.
Prizes were awarded to exemplary public health and hygienic information officials and mothers. Then followed a lecture on breastfeeding and child health.
The participants watched a Korean science film about child health and nutrition and enjoyed an art performance given by children of the Kaeson Kindergarten in Moranbong District.
