The Ryugyong Kimchi Factory in the DPRK has turned into a model and icon of the nation’s kimchi factories.
The factory, the production processes of which have been perfectly automated and streamlined, is producing various kinds of kimchi, including whole cabbage kimchi, sliced cabbage kimchi, nutritious kimchi for children, cucumber kimchi and sliced radish kimchi. As a famous national dish, kimchi draws the worldwide attention.
As regards the five world health foods, a foreign magazine introduced in detail the Korean kimchi. It said that the Korean kimchi was chosen as the five world health foods as it is rich in vitamins A, C, lactic acid bacteria, polysaccharide and lignin. ITAR-TASS reported that kimchi is regarded as panacea as it contains rich vitamins. Other news agencies noted that kimchi helps prevent various diseases as it contains vitamins, essential amino acid and mineral matters.
The 10th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO held in Namibia in 2015 adopted a decision on registering Korean nation’s custom of making kimchi on the “typical list of intangible cultural heritage of mankind”.
Therefore, kimchi, a pride of the Korean nation, is well known as the best health food in the world for its taste and pharmaceutical value.
