On February 3, student participants in the Path to Liberation commemorative march arrived in Pophyong, marking another significant milestone in their journey retracing a key moment in the nation’s history.

This annual event honors the path taken by President Kim Il Sung when he crossed the Amnok River, vowing not to return until Korea had gained its independence. As the students entered Pophyong, their march flags flying high, they were warmly welcomed by local officials, workers, and fellow students from Kim Hyong Jik County, Ryanggang Province.

A formal gathering took place at the Pophyong Revolutionary Site, where a statue of President Kim Il Sung stands in remembrance of his historic journey. Officials from the Workers’ Party of Korea, including Kim Jong Sun, a senior party official, and Ri Tae Il, Secretary of the Ryanggang Provincial Party Committee, attended alongside representatives from the Youth League and other organizations.

During the ceremony, students laid wreaths and bouquets of flowers at the statue, paying their respects before offering a collective salute.

A letter addressed to Leader Kim Jong Un was read aloud during the gathering. In it, the participants reported their successful completion of the march to Pophyong, commemorating two major anniversaries:

  • The 100th anniversary of Kim Il Sung’s journey on the Path to Liberation
  • The 50th anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s initiative to establish this commemorative march

The students expressed their commitment to carrying forward the revolutionary spirit of their predecessors, reflecting on the significance of their journey and the lessons they had learned along the way.

Following the ceremony, several students took the stage to share their thoughts and reflections on the march. They spoke about the challenges they faced, the inspiration they drew from history, and their determination to uphold the ideals of national unity and resilience.

This commemorative march remains a powerful tradition, reinforcing the values of dedication, perseverance, and national pride among the younger generation.
