A set of new regional factories have been inaugurated in Orang County, North Hamgyong Province, as part of efforts to boost local industry and improve living standards.
The newly completed facilities include a seafood processing plant, a food production factory, and a daily necessities factory. The seafood processing plant aims to take advantage of the county’s coastal location, producing a variety of marine products. The food and daily goods factories will contribute to meeting local demand for essential supplies.
The inauguration ceremony took place on January 31, attended by local officials and residents. Kim Yong Hwan, Chief Secretary of the North Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of regional development. He emphasized the goal of strengthening local economies and improving infrastructure in smaller communities.
During his speech, Kim recalled that leader Kim Jong Un visited the county in 2018, where he stressed the importance of utilizing local resources such as the sea and inland waterways for economic growth. He noted that the newly built factories reflect those long-term development plans.
Kim Chol Ho, Chief Secretary of the Orang County WPK Committee, also addressed the audience, stating that efforts would be made to ensure the new facilities produce high-quality goods that benefit local residents.
Following the speeches, factory representatives cut the ribbon, and attendees toured the new production sites. The event concluded with a celebratory performance and a fireworks display over Orang County.
The opening of these factories represents part of DPRK broader strategy to develop regional industries, aiming to reduce reliance on central supply networks and promote economic self-sufficiency in local areas.
