The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) continues its efforts to strengthen regional economies with the completion of new local industry factories in Kumya County, South Hamgyong Province. These new facilities aim to improve economic self-sufficiency and enhance the daily lives of residents by producing essential goods locally.
The government’s focus on regional development has led to significant projects across the country, including modern greenhouses in Ryongpho, large-scale fish farms in Sinpho, and now, advanced industrial facilities in Kumya. These factories will help provide locally sourced goods, reduce reliance on external supplies, and create new job opportunities for residents.
On February 3, government officials, workers, and residents gathered to celebrate the completion of the factories. The event was attended by local leaders and members of the construction teams, who were warmly welcomed for their contributions to the project.
During the ceremony, Ri Jong Nam, Chief Secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Party Committee, emphasized the importance of these new factories in strengthening the country’s economy. He highlighted how developing local industries helps create self-reliant communities, ensuring that people have access to essential goods without relying on external markets.
Ri Ho Bom, Secretary of the Kumya County Party Committee, also spoke at the event, urging workers and officials to maintain high production standards and ensure the long-term success of the factories. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees toured the new factories, observing production lines that will manufacture everyday essentials such as food products and household goods. Many residents expressed pride in the fact that their community will now be able to produce and distribute its own goods, reducing dependence on imports from other regions.
Factory workers also shared their enthusiasm for the new opportunities these industries bring.
