An event was held on May 5 at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club in celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Midwife.
Attendees included officials from the Ministry of Public Health, related sectors, and medical staff from Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and other healthcare institutions in the city.
During the event, speakers noted that the International Confederation of Midwives had chosen this year’s theme as “The Importance of Midwives in Crisis Response.” They emphasized that, under the country’s socialist system, pregnant women and newborns in the DPRK receive substantial medical support and care from the state.
It was stressed that all midwives should demonstrate deep compassion and professional expertise, devoting themselves fully to the health of mothers and infants — bringing joy and happiness to both families and society.
The event also featured presentations on strategies for ensuring maternal and newborn health during emergencies and disasters.
