The Cabinet Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) held an extended meeting on January 13-14 to discuss strategies for implementing the key decisions made at the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee. The session was chaired by Pak Thae Song, a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK and the premier of the DPRK Cabinet.
The meeting brought together members, alternates, and other officials from the WPK Cabinet Committee to review progress in 2024 and set objectives for the year ahead. The discussions revolved around addressing economic challenges, improving social policies, and fulfilling the major goals outlined by the WPK leadership.
Ri Yong Sik, chief secretary of the Cabinet Committee, described the decisions as part of a revolutionary program to elevate socialism and advance the nation’s development. He emphasized that these measures would build on the momentum of the Eighth Party Congress, fostering sustained growth and progress.
The committee conducted an in-depth analysis of successes and challenges from the previous year. Participants underscored the importance of strengthening leadership and coordination to achieve the targets of the five-year economic plan. Discussions highlighted key industrial and construction sectors, which are expected to play a pivotal role in preparing for the next stage of development. Officials stressed the need to sustain large-scale construction projects to maintain what they called a “golden age of construction,” while maximizing the use of existing resources and addressing ongoing obstacles.
Agriculture was identified as a critical area of focus. The committee emphasized the need to provide farmers with sufficient seeds and materials, adopt scientific farming methods, and achieve ambitious grain production targets to ensure food security. Improving living standards was also a central theme, with a call to enhance the efficiency of newly established regional factories and revitalize local industries.
Science and technology featured prominently in the discussions, with proposals aimed at addressing technical challenges and improving administrative processes. The meeting also covered plans to strengthen public healthcare, enhance anti-epidemic measures, and maintain high standards in education and child welfare. Officials highlighted the importance of sports and physical fitness as a source of national pride and a way to inspire unity.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on strengthening collaboration among government agencies and WPK organizations to ensure the effective implementation of these plans. Action plans were finalized during sectional consultations, and all decisions were unanimously approved, reflecting the shared commitment of the participants.
Despite acknowledging significant challenges ahead, the committee expressed confidence in overcoming obstacles and achieving meaningful progress to improve the lives of the DPRK’s citizens in 2024.
