The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a product fair in Pyongyang from April 22 to 26, featuring goods produced by 20 newly established local industrial factories across various cities and counties. The event highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to boost regional industries and improve living standards outside the capital.
The showcased items included basic food products such as processed wheat foods, confectionery, and seafood products, along with household goods like laundry soap, plastic items, furniture, and clothing. In total, 439 types of products across 21 categories were presented.
During the fair, product quality was assessed through laboratory analysis and expert evaluations, focusing on hygiene, nutrition, and durability standards. Officials from both the central and regional governments attended to review the goods and discuss ways to further raise manufacturing standards across the country.
Some regions stood out:
-
Products from Songchon and Jaeryong counties were praised for their quality improvements.
-
Onchon and Sukchon counties were recognized for innovations in seafood and processed foods, reportedly matching the standards of established central factories.
-
Unchon County gained attention with its popular range of household goods.
Visitors noted that the quality gap between regional and central products was narrowing, with many suggesting that local goods could find demand even in Pyongyang’s commercial markets.
The fair served not only as a promotional event but also as a forum for factory managers and workers to exchange experiences, discuss modernization strategies, and commit to improving product quality and competitiveness.
The event underscored the DPRK’s broader efforts to encourage balanced regional development and advance local economic growth.
