A group of schoolchildren from across the DPRK is undertaking a symbolic 250-mile journey, retracing the path taken by Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese struggle. This annual expedition, known as the 250-Mile Journey for National Liberation, serves as an important educational event, designed to instill patriotism and a deeper understanding of the country’s revolutionary history among young generations.

The group set off from Hyangsan on January 25 and has since passed through key historical sites in Huichon City, Tongsin, Songwon, Jonchon, and Songgan counties, where they learned about the hardships and sacrifices endured by early revolutionaries. Along the way, local officials, workers, and fellow students welcomed and encouraged the participants, emphasizing the importance of remembering the nation’s past.

On January 30, the students arrived in Kanggye City, where they paid tribute at the statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, laying floral baskets and bouquets in respect. They visited several revolutionary sites in Kanggye, where they studied the life and struggles of Kim Il Sung, who, as a young man, led the anti-Japanese resistance and ultimately paved the way for Korea’s liberation.

The journey is intended not only as a physical challenge but as a way for students to connect with the spirit of perseverance and dedication that defined the early revolutionaries. By walking the same route taken during the independence struggle, participants gain firsthand experience of the endurance and commitment required to fight for their nation’s future.

On January 31, the group departed Kanggye City, continuing their journey toward Phophyong, where Kim Il Sung first crossed into Korea after years of guerrilla warfare against Japanese forces. As they marched forward, the students sang revolutionary songs, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of national strength and self-reliance.

This journey remains a core part of the DPRK’s youth education, aimed at preparing students to be dedicated citizens who uphold the country’s revolutionary traditions and contribute to the nation’s future.
