Servicepersons and civilians in the DPRK celebrated lunar New Year’s Day, 2017.

Many people visited the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the sacred temple of Juche, where President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il lie in state. They paid tribute to the smiling portraits of the great leaders in the plaza. Servicepersons, working citizens from all walks of life and school youth and children visited the statues and portraits of the great leaders on Mansu Hill and in other parts of the country to pay homage to them.

Art performances were given in Pyongyang and local areas to liven up the festive mood. Meanwhile, working citizens and school youth and children across the country enjoyed the holiday, playing folk games. A kite-flying contest of schoolchildren from across the country was staged at Kim Il Sung Square and in front of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace.

Catering establishments served various traditional foods and dishes to the citizens enjoying the lunar New Year’s Day.
