A central gathering was held on May 1 at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to mark the 135th anniversary of May Day, the international holiday celebrated by workers around the world.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the government, including Pak Thae Song, a member of the WPK Political Bureau Presidium and Premier of the DPRK, as well as Kim Tok Hun, a secretary of the WPK Central Committee. Also present were officials from ministries, state institutions, factories, and enterprises in Pyongyang, along with workers and employees.

Foreign diplomats based in the DPRK and overseas Koreans visiting the country were also invited.

Premier Pak Thae Song delivered the keynote speech.

In his address, he extended greetings on behalf of the WPK Central Committee and the DPRK government to workers across the country—including those in industry, agriculture, and science—for their ongoing efforts in national development.

He reflected on the historical significance of May Day for Korean workers, mentioning past hardships during the colonial era and emphasizing the changes that occurred after Korea’s liberation. He credited the country’s leadership for shaping a strong, ideologically committed workforce that now actively participates in national construction.

Pak stated that although May Day is celebrated globally, the role and status of workers in the DPRK are unique in their political engagement and contribution to the state, describing them as vital forces behind recent progress.

He highlighted recent developments across sectors and emphasized the current government’s focus on technological innovation, productivity increases, and self-reliance.

The premier mentioned that under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, workers are seen as key contributors to national strategy and policy, particularly in achieving the five-year development plan adopted at the 8th Party Congress.

He stressed the need for continued unity and dedication from workers, scientists, and farmers to meet national targets and drive further progress.

Pak concluded by encouraging all citizens to move forward with pride in their contributions and continue working toward a stronger and more self-sufficient country.
