At the Road Facility Management Office in Pyongchon District, a unique workgroup known as the Chollima Work Team has been maintaining the roads for over three decades. This team, composed of individuals of the same age, has an inspiring story of commitment and unity.

The team was formed over 30 years ago when 20 recent graduates from the district’s middle school volunteered as road maintenance workers. Their decision to dedicate themselves to this essential work was recognised and celebrated, earning them the honorary name Chollima Work Team to reflect their dedication to the spirit of the Chollima era – a time symbolising rapid development and hard work.

Decades later, the original members still stand guard over the same roads. Now grandmothers, they continue their work with unwavering dedication, despite rain, snow, or strong winds. For them, their lives have been intertwined with the roads they maintain.

The team shares a memory of a special moment in their lives: on their wedding days, they were provided with celebratory meals and new homes, a recognition of their contributions and commitment. This gesture of appreciation became a lifelong source of strength and motivation, inspiring them to remain steadfast in their work.

The workers express profound gratitude for this recognition, which they view as a love and respect so immense that it has guided their dedication to their roles. For them, their bond is not only about shared age but also shared purpose and commitment to their work and their values.

Their story is a testament to enduring dedication, unity, and the power of recognition, leaving a lasting impression on all who hear it.
