The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is actively engaged in afforestation to turn the entire country into a green oasis. One of the key components of this effort is the production of saplings required for afforestation, which is being carried out by various units across the country.

The Rangnang District Forestry Management Station, located in the capital city of Pyongyang, is one such unit that is playing a significant role in this endeavor. Senior engineer Kim Kang Chol, who works at the station, emphasizes the importance of increasing the variety of saplings produced this year. While saplings of major species like the Changsong larch, Kumya black pine, and pine-nut tree are being produced, the station has also expanded the production of a greater number of varieties necessary for the green landscape of streets and villages. These include the weeping pagoda tree, red-leaf barberry, and purple-leaf plum.

The tree nursery of the Rangnang District Forestry Management Station has been equipped with full material and technical foundations to produce saplings in all seasons. The employees of the station are scientifically manuring and cultivating saplings with the help of scientists from the Academy of Forest Science, which has resulted in tens of thousands of saplings of over 10 species growing in the nursery.

In addition, the employees of the station are regularly learning about the latest scientific and technological advancements related to manuring and cultivating saplings to ensure that they are growing healthy saplings. During the spring tree planting, they follow regulations to shovel and wrap saplings to raise the rooting rate of the planted trees.

The employees of the station take their work very seriously and devote all their sincerity even to a sapling, as Kim Un Sim explains. They visualize the green forests to be more exuberant and devote all their efforts to sapling production, recognizing that each sapling is a vital part of the larger goal of turning their country into a green oasis.
