The following statement has been issued by Explore DPRK Editorial Team, reflecting our commitment to cultural exchange, free expression, and transparency in digital spaces.
It is with deep concern and disappointment that we address the recent unjust removal of our YouTube channel—a platform that has served as a vital conduit for cultural exchange between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Western world since its establishment in 2015.
The initial blockade of our channel in South Korea and its subsequent abrupt dismantling without any prior warning or communication from the YouTube platform raises serious questions about the integrity of content moderation practices. This arbitrary and seemingly politically motivated action appears to be a part of a larger, troubling narrative—a propaganda war against our mission and the DPRK.
It is particularly disconcerting that our channel, dedicated solely to fostering cultural understanding and acting as a bridge between two worlds, has become a casualty in what appears to be a broader campaign of war propaganda against the DPRK, with the U.S. at its forefront.
This heedless removal, devoid of any violation of YouTube’s policies on our part, is a blatant disregard for the years of dedication and commitment we’ve poured into our channel. It not only undermines the essence of free expression but also threatens the principles of diversity, inclusivity, and cultural exchange that we champion.
In response to this unwarranted suppression, we wish to make it unequivocally clear that, at this moment, we have no intentions of returning to the YouTube platform. Instead, we are actively exploring alternative avenues to continue our mission and uphold the values that form the foundation of our work. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of platforms that genuinely value free expression, cultural diversity, and fair content moderation practices. We remain resolute in our commitment to fostering understanding between communities and promoting a world where cultural exchange is celebrated rather than suppressed.
