The Unha Technical Office at the Unha Trading Bureau shone brightly at the Autumn Clothes Show-2023 held last year, as their clothing designs claimed top honors.
“Our two prize-winning designers are truly exceptional talents in our office. They are incredibly creative and passionate,” shared Sin Ok Ran, the section chief of the office.
Both designers are graduates of Pyongyang University of Fine Arts.
Song Un Jong, with over 10 years of experience, presented a dress at the show and has previously won awards at events like the National Industrial Design Exhibition. Notably, she gained recognition for designing riding suits for all seasons at the Mirim Riding Club and a sanitary uniform for the Kangso Mineral Water Bottling Factory.
Hong Su Ryon, presenting a woman’s suit, is a newer talent with several designs from her university days.
Song Un Jong excels in blending cloth colors to enhance the overall appeal, while Hong Su Ryon utilizes asymmetrical patterns and decorations to add elegance to the cut.
Despite differences in age and aesthetic sense, they share a common perspective. Both believe that not many people, especially women, prefer overly popularized clothing. They assert that women’s clothing designers should be more attuned to fashion trends and diligently explore original looks.
Frequently visiting tailor’s shops in the city to understand customer needs and exchanging ideas at national shows, they stay connected with the pulse of fashion.
When their designs received top prizes at the Autumn Clothes Show-2023, people unanimously acknowledged that their success was a result of their creative passion.
Reflecting on the rapidly evolving fashion scene, Song Un Jong mentioned, “Every year, the exhibition showcases numerous new and unique designs. Particularly, the emerging designers are daring, presenting many chic looks. I fear falling behind them.”
Hong Su Ryon, in her first show as a professional designer, expressed her ambition to present a fine design and credited her success to the generous assistance from Song Un Jong and other colleagues.
Today, they collaborate to develop even better designs that resonate with the aesthetic preferences of the people.
