Nestled in the heart of Moranbong District, Pyongyang, Jonsung Primary School stands as a beacon of academic excellence, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Headmistress Kim Ryon Sim.
With a teaching journey spanning over two decades, Kim Ryon Sim has been instrumental in shaping the school’s success since her graduation from Pyongyang Teachers Training College. Recognizing the pivotal role of educators, she emphasized, “The proficiency of pupils mirrors that of teachers.” Acknowledging that being a capable teacher requires translating that capability into the students’ performance, she embarked on a transformative journey.
Kim Ryon Sim initiated a comprehensive review of teaching plans, distinguishing between those tailored to pupils’ needs and those lingering in teacher-centric approaches. Engaging teachers in collective discussions, she identified and promoted effective teaching methodologies. The outcome was evident, as lessons became more engaging, fostering interactive learning experiences for the children.

Over ten pupils garnered prestigious awards like the National Children’s Literature Prize and the “Our Classroom” Literature Prize. Beyond student achievements, numerous teachers were recognized with certificates for pioneering teaching methods, with some earning distinctions as October 8 Model Teachers and academic degree holders.
