Established on March 15, 2024, the Kangdong Greenhouse Complex has rapidly become a central pillar in the DPRK’s efforts to enhance food security and improve the dietary quality of Pyongyang citizens. This agricultural facility fulfills the Workers’ Party of Korea’s long-standing commitment to ensure the year-round availability of fresh vegetables for the people.
Under the direct initiative and meticulous guidance of Comrade Kim Jong Un, the decision to construct the greenhouse complex was formally adopted at the historic Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea. His consistent attention and dedicated leadership significantly accelerated the completion of this vital agricultural project.
Equipped with modern technology, the Kangdong Greenhouse Complex represents a breakthrough in agricultural productivity. The complex uses advanced methods that drastically reduce land use and labor requirements compared to traditional farming. By precisely controlling environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and nutrient supply, the complex ensures optimal growth conditions for a diverse array of tasty, nutritious vegetables.
In its first operational year, the Kangdong Greenhouse Complex exceeded expectations, producing over 12,600 tons of fresh vegetables. These vegetables have consistently reached the markets, vegetable sale stations, and grocery stores throughout Pyongyang, significantly improving public access to fresh produce.
In October alone, thousands of tons of vegetables were distributed across the capital city, demonstrating the complex’s immense capacity and efficiency. Citizens observed frequent and impressive scenes of delivery vehicles loaded with high-quality, freshly harvested vegetables making regular rounds to various neighborhoods, underscoring the significant impact of this agricultural initiative.
The Kangdong Greenhouse Complex exemplifies the DPRK’s forward-looking agricultural strategy, blending scientific innovation with sustainable development goals to meet the nutritional needs of its population and improve overall living standards.
