Every year on March 14th, DPRK commemorates Tree-Planting Day, a significant national event dating back to 1952. At the height of the Korean War, President Kim Il Sung launched a nationwide tree-planting initiative to restore forests devastated by intense bombing.
Today, this tradition continues vigorously under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Un. Emphasizing afforestation as crucial for national prosperity and the well-being of citizens, Kim Jong Un has personally led tree-planting events and outlined detailed strategies for nationwide reforestation.
Innovations in forestry include modern tree nurseries producing diverse saplings like the newly-named “Kumya Black Pine” and the popular “Sangwon Poplar.” These efforts extend beyond planting, incorporating preventive measures against landslides, forest fires, pests, and diseases to safeguard these vital natural resources.
Through these initiatives, DPRK aims to transform its landscapes into thriving green environments—reflecting a deep-rooted commitment to ecological restoration and national pride.
