Every clinic scattered throughout the remote areas nationwide is staffed with resident physicians.

These resident physicians constantly take responsibility for the health and well-being of the residents under their care.

In the Boksae Comprehensive Medical Center located in Morambong District of Pyongyang, efforts are underway to enhance the role of resident physicians by introducing a resident health management information system and conducting medical services in a more rational, efficient, and advanced manner.

The director of the medical center, Ri Sung Hui, stated, “The resident health management information system contains comprehensive data on the residents of Boksa-dong and Sohung-dong, including chronic disease status, vitality, familial and genetic predispositions, vaccinations, diagnosis and treatment records, as well as personal histories of illnesses and hobbies.”

Furthermore, Ri emphasized the significant impact of the resident health management information system, noting that in cases where individuals lose consciousness or collapse while on a business trip to remote areas, relevant medical information can be swiftly transmitted to assist in their treatment upon confirmation of their identity.

Just recently, a woman named Kim Kyung Hui, residing in Boksa-dong, collapsed due to an unknown cause while visiting relatives in a rural area. Thanks to the resident health management information system, her medical records were promptly forwarded to the relevant hospital, enabling accurate diagnosis and treatment, thus yielding positive results.

The medical center meticulously updates the resident health management information system daily with detailed records of health management, examinations, treatment plans, and follow-ups received by residents.

Resident physicians utilize this system to thoroughly assess residents under their care based on age, gender, occupation, and generational demographics, tailoring examinations and treatment activities accordingly to identify chronic disease patients and devise necessary measures.

Moreover, special attention is devoted to the treatment of war veterans, discharged soldiers, honored servicemen, and pregnant women.

The daily routine of resident physicians is extremely hectic. In the mornings, they conduct examinations and treatments for patients requiring follow-ups, while also engaging in hygiene education activities for planned community sessions. In the afternoons, they perform on-site examinations for emergency patients and conduct routine clinical activities.

Engaging in clinical activities for residents of their designated areas, rain or shine, is no trivial task. However, doctors tirelessly reach out to residents, whether for health consultations or educational purposes, ensuring that the benefits of socialist healthcare reach every individual.

Ri Hyon Sam, a war veteran residing in Seoheung-dong, Morambong District, expressed profound gratitude, stating, “Every time I encounter Dr. Ri Young Ok, our resident physician who visits our home daily to check our blood pressure and provide us with good medicine, my appreciation for the socialist healthcare system deepens. It’s truly an unimaginable feat without it.”

In addition to providing medical care to residents, the medical center also extends its services to children at the Moranbong District-affiliated Moranbong Kindergarten and students at Sohung Elementary School. Dr. Kim Jae Gum frequently conducts health check-ups for children to ensure their robust growth.

The dental and Koryo Medicine departments of the medical center actively utilize various medical equipment developed for treatment purposes.

As a result, the medical personnel here are affectionately referred to by residents as “our doctor.”
