Merited Artist Im Hyok, a symbol of artistic talent and dedication, has been a pillar of the Mansudae Art Studio in Pyongyang for over three decades. His journey in the realm of art began with his graduation from the prestigious Pyongyang University of Fine Arts.
Currently, he leads as the section chief of the Korean Painting Production Unit, a role befitting his creative prowess. Im Hyok’s passion for drawing was evident from his early years, and it was this passion that led him to specialize in Korean painting at the university. His aspiration was not just to pursue art but to excel in Korean painting, a tradition deeply cherished and revered by the people.
His exceptional talent was recognized early in his career. As a university student, his Korean painting “Thought” was showcased at an international fine art exhibition, where it received the highest honor – a gold medal. This early success was a precursor to his distinguished works at the Mansudae Art Studio, including the celebrated “The Waves of Sea Kumgang” and “Mt. Chilbo in Autumn.” These paintings, now considered national treasures, resonate deeply with the Korean spirit and heritage.
