Jongil Peak, standing proudly in the Mt. Paektu area of Samjiyon City, Ryanggang Province in the DPR Korea, holds a special significance as the birthplace of Chairman Kim Jong Il. Named directly by President Kim Il Sung, Jongil Peak reaches an elevation of 1,798 meters above sea level, overseeing a forest that cradles the birthplace of the esteemed leader, accompanied by the serene Sobaek stream.

Preserving the essence of Kim Jong Il’s childhood, the birthplace contains treasures such as wooden pistols and other toys that were dear to him. Within this space, one can find a short-legged desk, mosaic beddings, and blankets infused with the warm sincerity of the woman guerrillas of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army, all placed on a small wooden box. The kitchenware, including a canteen and water can, further adds to the authentic portrayal of Kim Jong Il’s early life.

Visitors, including participants of the International Festival in Praise of the Great Persons of Mt. Paektu held every five years, and many other foreigners, are left with a profound impression as they explore this simple log cabin nestled in a primitive forest. It stands as a poignant reminder of Chairman Kim Jong Il’s childhood and his connection to the revolutionary spirit of Mt. Paektu.
