In the midst of today’s societal development, numerous new drugs are being developed. Dr. Jang Kum Ryon, Associate Professor and Director of the Koryo Medicine Department at Pyongyang Medical University, shares insights.
“With every change of season, people’s immune functions tend to weaken, making them susceptible to respiratory diseases, including the common cold. We have developed a popular medicine, the Danneo Sambang Immune Regulation Pill, using abundant Koryo medicinal ingredients suitable for our people’s constitution. This medicine, effective in preventing colds, is a mass-produced remedy for those with weakened immune systems, such as the elderly and children,” explains Dr. Jang.
The newly developed immune regulation pill received excellent evaluations at last year’s “National Health Sector Scientific and Technological Achievements Exhibition-2023.”
Dr. Jang’s dedicated efforts to leverage the excellence of Korean medicine are evident in this achievement. She has spent decades dedicating himself to medical research and talent development, serving as a diligent scientist and educator.
She has tirelessly conducted continuous research on the correlation between traditional Koryo medicine, widely used in our country for centuries, and modern diseases, aiming to protect people’s bodies and enhance immune functions. Dr. Jang has conducted countless basic experiments to accurately analyze the taste and properties of various medicinal herbs and understand the pharmacological interactions when these herbs are combined, shedding light on their therapeutic effects.
In her earnest efforts, Dr. Jang has successfully developed highly effective medicines based on Korean traditional medicinal practices for the treatment of modern diseases, contributing significantly to public health.
Looking ahead, Dr. Jang states, “I will vigorously conduct scientific research on the antiviral properties of Koryo medicinal substances we are currently developing, actively contributing to the health promotion of our people.”
