The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea succeeded in putting the production of makkoli, one of the nation’s traditional beverages, on an industrial basis to provide a material and technical foundation for mass-producing it.

Makkoli is known as a refreshing beverage suited to Koreans’ taste from olden times. It had been used as one of drinks for guests in folk holidays and household events including wedding ceremony.

All its production processes ranging from the collection and treatment of rice washing water to mashing and fermentation, filtration, disinfection and packaging are on an automated and assembly-line basis.

The culture room equipped with automatic temperature controller has all conditions necessary for aspergillus production and leavening.

Makkoli, produced in an industrial way at the instant rice factory, won a high appreciation at various exhibitions in recent years, including the National Exhibition of August 3 Consumer Goods held this year.
